For nearly twenty years, Kennedy has been acknowledged as one of the world's leading violin virtuosos and is, without doubt, one of the most important violinists Britain has ever produced. His virtuosic technique, unique talent and popular appeal have brought fresh perspectives to both the classical and contemporary repertoire.
We associate Kennedy with Bach as often as we see him with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, but here he is with both, and he is found at his most urgently charismatic, backed by the superb strings of the BPO. Kennedy has a positive, often robust view of Bach, and approaches the finales at breathtakingly fast speeds. He has clearly undertaken some meticulous research as his playing reveals a scrupulous attention to details that are often glossed over.
The programme features four of Bach's best-known works: the Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor, the Concerto for Oboe and Violin in D Minor and the A Minor and E Major violin concertos. Directed by the violinist himself, it also represents the first recording collaboration between Kennedy and one of the worlds oldest and most revered orchestras, the Berlin Philharmonic.
A very distinctive issue from an exceptional artist.
