The real sound of punk garage! Basement Jaxx second long-player is a genius collection of rawkus, irreverent and at times just plain noisy songs, with their inescapable sense of humour colouring everything. While other house artists muck about for years with the 'difficult' second LP, 'Rooty' feels like Felix and Simon Jaxx have simply breezed into the studio and gone completely mad with a bunch of their friends, a sackful of ideas and a tongue planted firmly in cheek. It's coherent, sublimely well produced and, like Daft Punk's awesome 'Discovery', it sounds like no-one other than Basement Jaxx could've made it. It's not easy listening, and like I've said, at times it gets plain noisy, but exquisite pop moments like 'Romeo' and 'Jus 1 Kiss', along with sweet, chill pieces like 'Broken Dreams' and crazy, Timbaland influenced tracks like 'Crazygirl' make this a testament to the genius - said it again - of Basement Jaxx. Excellent. Its official! Headlining the Boiler Room at the 2002 Big Day Out is none other than BASEMENT JAXX. Yeeeeehaaaaaaaa! Special Smokecds.com price (for a limited time only). |
