Welcome to the first commercial release from Capitalrecordings, based in Wellington New Zealand. 'Earwork 02 is the sum of many parts local design company Eyework Design, student radio show, and newly formed recording label, Capitalrecordings. Compiled by Radio Actives Jewell School hosts, Zen and Andy, with an emphasis on style over genre, 'Earwork 02' stands as a testimony to the high quality of music being born, created and recorded in bedrooms, apartments and beach houses in New Zealand (especially Wellington).
From the exclusive opening cut from local legends Mu & Dallas (aka Joe Dukie & DJ Fitchie), to the blunted funk of Dub Connection, DJ Vee's cut 'n' paste beatscape, Melbourne based Jet Jaguar's delicious squelching electronica (with Vee on the cut), Miles 'Audio Sauce' Tilly with the beautifully bent slow-mo house of 'Funkstar Too', the gorgeous 'Easy Life' from Tubbs (featuring Hamish Clarke on vocals), to the final deep stuttering magic of the dubby closer from Tony Naironi (aka Toby Laing), these local tracks stack up well against their illustrious international counterparts (Beatless, 4 Hero and Atjazz). Pure listening pleasure for any discerning and open minded contemporary music fan. Recommended.
(For fans of Freddy's Drop, Rae & Christian, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Aim, and other such beat-based delights). Super Smokin' NZ Music Month Special.
