Twinset (then known as 'The SpiderMen') hooked up at the start of their second year at the then Wellington Polytechnic Conservatorium of Music in 1996. Their first gig was at a warehouse party along with various Goth bands who splattered themselves in blood needless to say, they were in suits & ties. Since then this fine trio have been a regular live feature in Wellington (a legendary residency at the late nite joint Tatou, a longstanding Wednesday night residency at The Matterhorn), going under a variety of names (Los Tigres Del Norte, Moose Head etc) until Leon Matterhorn had the honour of eventually naming them Twinset. 'It's A summer Feeling' is their third album, see's them hooking up with Wellington label Capitalrecordings, engineers Dr Lee Prebble and Bret McKenzie aka The Video Kid (both of Black Seeds fame), and Mu at The Drop (mastering). The result is a solid, funky and vibrant jazz workout, heavy on the organ (along the likes of the sixties Bluenote recordings featuring John Patton, Jimmy McGriff, etc), and the soul (the spirit of Stax backing outfit Booker T & The MGs), all the while absorbing the Wellington vibe that has produced current city faves Fat Freddy's Drop, Rhombus, Black Seeds, etc). Wicked summer feeling guaranteed. Recommended. 2003 NZ Music Award Finalist - Best Jazz Album.
