Supergrass have suffered the musical paradox of diminshing sales as there sound has diversified and expanded. 'Life on Other Planets' could very well turn this around. After an extended sojourn in the south of France writing tunes and boosting band unity the 'Grass returned to London to record. It shows, the vibe is super relaxed performances of frantic excitable rock. A good combination really. 'Can't Get Up', 'Grace' and 'Za' are pop as it should be, goofy and care free. Gaz's keyboard playing brother Rob Coombes has officially joined the group, after sifting in the shadows for many a year. His crazy synth antics are a highlight of this album. With the charming whimsy of T-Rex or early Bowie 'Life on Other Planets' is this summers alternative to garage rock. Recommended. Mojo Magazine's Number 6 album of 2002.
