With the backing of both Eminem and Dr Dre, plus a reputation invloving plenty of scars, threats, bullet wounds, a teenage mother who died when he was eight, drug dealing and general "thug life" behaviour, this "official" debut (previous label Columbia chickened out of releasing his previous album 'Power Of The Dollar') from Curtis Jackson (aka 50 Cent) is certainly the real "gangsta" deal. The singles "In Da Club" and "Wanksta" bang with the best of them, while the album itself sold over 870,000 copies in the US in it's first week of release (a new sales record for a major label debut album). Certainly not for the faint of heart, but those down with Dre, Eminem, Tupac, Biggie, etc will find plenty to enjoy here. |
