A member of Deceptikonz, South Auckland's Mareko steps out on his own with 'White Sunday'. After building a strong reputation throughout New Zealand with his brilliant battle MC'ing - anyone who has witnessed this man live would testify to his great voice and tight flows - we are now treated to the finest Hip Hop album our country has produced. With a big budget and several big name Hip Hop producers and rappers involved much was expected from this record, and what a punch it delivers. Kicking off cleverly with a rap about conspiracy theories in the Hip Hop game on "Espionage", we are then treated to guest star Inspectah Deck from Wu Tang on "Street Rap" before dropping a banging beat by the Beatminerz on "Why Is That?". Other standout cuts include "Big Dummy", featuring production and a tidy rap from New York's Celph Titled, and the anthem in waiting that is "Major Flavour" with Sadat X and DJ Sir-vere on the cut.
Overall everything you might have expected from this pedigree is delivered upon, Mareko sounds great, the equal of any big name guests. While local production stands up against anything made in the US. Expect this album to become a classic and open the doors for NZ Hip Hop worldwide. With a national tour in the works and great videos on the way, the future is looking bright for the boys at Dawn Raid. Show your respect and make sure you grab this high quality album. Recommended. |
