The latest "bright hopes" on New Zealand's prestigious Flying Nun label, this trio known as PanAm follow up their excellent 'New Concepts' EP with this stunning full-length debut. Heavily influenced by the great rock bands of the late sixties - Cream, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, Beatles - this young trio (all members are under 25) play their music with the exuberance of those immersed in the spirit, history and glory of rawk'n'roll. Other influences include Nirvana, Jane's Addiction, Smashing Pumpkins, while comparisons with fellow compatriots Betchadupa, The Datsuns and D4 are sure to come (although in fairness PanAm are less Stooges than D4, less Crowded House than Betchadupa and less AC/DC than the Datsuns). The result is a superb rock album, stacked with plenty of guitars, plenty of melody, and a bunch of pretty neat songs. Recommended.
