Another immaculately presented compilation in this exceedingly classy series from
Frenchman Stephane Pompougnac and the Paris-based Wagram label. Over 14 tracks you get a
nice selection of soulful, jazzy, and at times folksy music put together with the intent
of being played in the foyer of the (most likely unfeasibly bling-bling) Hotel Costes chain of fine hostelries. They do of course work well in the lounge, office, or bedroom as well.
The only two familiar names and tracks I could spot were Fingathing with the classic "You Fly Me" from their 2000 LP 'The Main Event' and Richard "K&D" Dorfmeister's Tosca project with "Rolf Royce", the rest are quite bafflingly European in flavour, with many strange accents and even stranger lyrics abounding. It works fantastically well though, with each track flowing beautifully into the next with effortless grace and style. The box set it comes in is a great selling point too I might add, with its embossed cover and postcard insert portraits of an insanely good-looking young Frenchwoman, in her undies (obviously) smoking a Gauloise (obviously!) and looking haughty. Brilliant. Buy all six in this collection and class up your home like no other.
