A collection of off-kilter 80s throwbacks, soul, funk, reggae and general leftfieldness as played by Victoria on her Sunday morning show on Auckland's George FM. Over a great value 19 tracks, she swings from Curtis Mayfield to Fun Boy Three to Simon and Garfunkel to Scritti Politti to Booker T & The MGs to Dexys to a great closing trio of the Tom Tom Club's "Genius Of Love", Jocelyn Brown's "Someone Else's Guy" and The Velvet Underground's "Sunday Morning". Like I said, it's willfully eclectic and varied, but with a common sounds-great-through-a-Sunday-morning-haze feel to it all. Also, while a lot of these artists are pretty common fodder for home-listening mixed CDs, she makes track selections that are really genuinely surprising, and the sequencing as well is intelligent, swinging from genre to genre with some actual rhyme and reason. If you look closely enough that is. Otherwise, best just to throw this on and sit back with a coffee and the paper. A great compilation. Recommended.
