The artists formally known as Shihad have built a reputation for amazing live shows, with excellent musicianship and energy making their performances unmissable (as their legions of loyal fans will no doubt agree), and so this double live album comes with the most solid of recommendations. Recorded at The Civic, Christchurch, Saint James in Auckland, Altitude in Hamilton and The Starlight Ballroom in Wellington respectively, in other words the album is a gift for their many fans, both in New Zealand and abroad - and a very nice present it is indeed. 24 songs are included, with tremendous versions of the groups best in abundance - check "You Again", "Everything" or "My Mind's Sedate". Vocalist Jon Toogood comes over like a madman barely controlled by prescription drugs, so powerful and intense is his contribution, Phil Knight puts Tony Iommi to shame, Karl Kippenberger's bass riffs are absolutely devastating, while the thunderous drumming of Tom Larkin manages to sound like a Jon Bonham solo throughout the whole album. Other standout cuts include "Home Again", "Bitter" and "A Day Away", yet its hard to pick favourites when all the material stands so strong. The group's live cult status is proved to be deserved by this solid and often awe inspiring album, and, with few modern rock bands able to make music this powerful live, reminds us just how great New Zealands finest rock outfit really is. A thundering and blistering set that will delight all and any die-hard fans, and for those new to Pacifier, this live document is the place to start. Recommended (and play loud).
