Berlin based collective Jazzanova have built up a reputation for making only the best in soulful electronic music, taking elements of several different styles and throwing it all in the melting pot, resulting in some truly inspired productions. This latest release from the outfit is a mixed CD with a difference - this album doesnt throb to the same beat for seventy minutes, instead acting as an insight into the world of these six very talented individuals. Things kick off in style - the Touch of Jazz remix of Jill Scotts already phenomenal A Long Walk, which they mix with a purpose built instrumental entitled Love Beats. The disc then flows through some exceptional music from the likes of Attica Blues (The Quest), Slope with the techno influenced Mousse, and Bakura whose Thinking About is remixed by Domu. Elsewhere Jazzanovas extraordinary productions standout. Let Your Heart Be Free is futuristic soul of the highest order, while Dance The Dance manages to match funk to the experimental with complete success. Similar in format to mixed CDs from the likes of Gilles Peterson and Patrick Forge, this is music you can listen to in any situation - deep enough to listen to at home, Mixing would also work any intelligent dancefloor into a frenzy, and this accessibility makes for one the best mixed CDs of 2004 so far. Recommended.
