One of the longest-serving house and techno DJs in London, "Evil" Eddie Richards' pedigree
stretches back to the heady days of 1988's acid house explosion and beyond. As one of the
original DJ team at the legendary Clink Street parties, alongside former frontman of The Shamen and now owner of The End nightclub Mr C, Richards has ploughed a groove that mixes the tempo and funk of good house music with a stripped back, dubby take on techno. It's usually referred to as tech-house, but that genre has unfortunate connotations of being both absolutely bore-the-pants-off-you tedious unless you're ripped to the eyeballs on E, and bled white as in completely bereft of any funk or soul whatsoever. Richards
manages to skip around both of these issues by putting the knob marked "funky ass basslines" onto about eleven and upping the "early progressive house feel" by about eighty. The line between that early prog sound, before it got either too trancey or too dark (thanks Germany and New York respectively on that one), and tech-house has always been a fluffy one and Richards rides it well here. 'Farbic16' ends up being a good selection of music that would appeal equally to house, progressive and techno/electronic
music lovers alike. A solid mix and another great addition to the best DJ mix CD series around. Recommended.
