Okay, this is not what I expected from an album called 'Destroy Rock & Roll' but damn I love it. Although based on electronic inspired beats of various types, this album from Scotsman Myles MacInnes aka Mylo is almost impossible to categorise - and therein lies its absolute appeal. Certainly the work of someone who spends far too much time tinkering in the studio (McInnes gave up a philosophy degree to do said tinkering), this album is none-the-less a eclectic and refreshing work that relies on smart subtly to deliver itself with confidence and definite panache. Moving from lush stoned electronica to minimal electro pulsing house with consumate ease, with tracks such as the sneaky Kim Carnes stealing "In My Arms" and the dancefloor aimed title track ("Destroy Rock & Roll") with its incessant list of eighties and nineties various musical stars or sins (depending on your view of those decades), this engaging album will bring a wry smile and happy nod to those who enjoy humour with their contemporary beats. It certainly won't destroy rock and roll, but then something this smart probably never intended too. Scotland's answer to Royksopp anyone ? Recommended.
