If you are already a fan of Andy Turner aka Aim, go no further, this Fabriclive selection is a delightful, if "low key", pearler, described by it's maker as "a kaleidoscope journey through some of my favourite music", that will find plenty of time in your playing equipment, especially this coming summer. A self-confessed crate digger, Turner has made his name on the back of two sublime gentle hip-hop inspired downbeat albums ('Cold Water Music' and 'Hinterland') for Mark Rae's (of Rae & Christian) Grand Central label, yet has also become a DJ of some note. Languid beats are Turner's speciality, from electronica to rare funk to hip-hop to pop, which when combined with track selection this good, makes for some very eclectic, hearty and soulful listening. This is a perfectly formed and willfully blunted set that will impress those already converted to the sound of Aim, and give those Aim novices with a penchant for mellow beats and breaks a certain thrill. Thanks Fabric fellas. Highly recommended. |
