On first listen you would swear this was a British band, but The Killers actually hail from Las Vegas. Founded in 2001 by vocalist/keyboardist Brandon Flowers and guitarist Dave Keuning, The Killers combine starry synths, dizzying edgy guitars and irresistable king size pop choruses, all completed by a stylised '80's shimmer (Psychedelic Furs, U2, The Cure, etc). The result is pop music that is frankly impossible not to like - tracks 3, 4 and 5 ("Smile Like You Mean It", "Somebody Told Me" and "All These Things That I've Done" provide the killer (ha ha- get it ?) punch - making stardom for this fourpiece on the back of this stunning debut a sure thing. Already starting to get big press in both the US and the UK, The Killers have achieved that rarity in modern music - a commercial pop album that doesn't suck! Recommended.
