This four-piece out of Leicester are apparently one of Liam Gallagher's favourite bands, and for once he may be right! With a rock sound that incorporates throbbing electronica, Kasabian make swaggering anthemic (first single "Club Foot" is an absolute scorcher) pop music that recalls the better parts of Primal Scream and the Happy Mondays without sounding retro or dated. All of this is backed up by some pretty decent songs, catchy sloganeering rhetoric, and plenty of suitably lean classic rock'n'roll-meets-electro, while in between the throbbing anthems ("Club Foot", "Processed Beats" "LSF"), Kasabian also bring a little welcome atmospheric subtlety ("Butcher Blues", "Running Battle", "Test Transmission") to proceedings. A big dynamic and demanding album, Kasabian will certainly gain plenty of exposure and resulting success in the UK (this album has already debuted at #4 in the UK Album Charts, while "Club Foot" was a UK Top Twenty hit), and for those of you searching for a belligerent replacement for your Underworld and Leftfield albums, this mighty debut could be just the ticket. As the Sunday Telegraph so succinctly put it, "truly Kasabian are the hound's testicles". Recommended (and made to be played loud).
