Recorded January 2003 in Wellington with long-time production collaborator David Holmes, "Dominion" is 29 minutes and 15 seconds of mind-expanding indie bliss, further enhancing this trio's considerable reputation as one of New Zealand's leading lights in the realm of avant-garde rock. Limited to 1000 hand-numbered copies and available only at Jakob live shows or here at SmokeCDs.com, I suggest anyone with an itch for the likes of Sonic Youth, Slint and HDU grab this special release immediately. Recommended.

The current line up of Jakob began in July 1998 in the heart of Napier [where they still reside] with the first gigs opening for Salmonella Dub and Pitch Black in Napier at the local pub OFlahertys. Since this humble beginning, this superb trio have released a self-titled EP, the "Erfro" 7" single, their lush and expansive full-length debut 'Subsets of Sets' (resulting in Jakob being nominated for "Best New Artist" at the 2001 New Zealand B-Net Music Awards and "Best Album" at the following 2002 Awards). Extensive touring followed this album (with the likes of HDU, Meterman, Avotor, Damo Suzuki (ex-Can vocalist) and a appearance at the 2002 Big Day Out) before the band returned to the studio in early 2003 to record their stunning second album 'Cale:Drew' (from which the track "Semaphore" was licensed as a 7 to The Datsuns Hellsquad label for a European release). |
