Second album from acclaimed ex-Detroit now NZ based DJ and Producer Matt Chicoine aka Recloose. Living in Wellington for the last four years has had an influence on Chicoine's music. "Hiatus on The Horizon" is a much more organic, less "DJ" record than it's predessor"Cardiology". And when it comes to guest players, it has a distinctly local flavour - The "usual suspects" (Joe Dukie, Hollie Smith, Lisa Tomlins, Jonathan Crayford and Trinity Roots' Riki Gooch) all lend their talents to "Hiatus". Recloose may be known for his association with Detroit techno pioneer Carl Craig and the Planet E and !K7 labels, but make no mistake - This is a New Zealand record.
Super-influencial british DJ Gilles Peterson has been thrashing the track "Dust" on his BBC Radio syndicated "Worldwide" show, and it was voted #3 by the shows listeners in the 2004 year end singles poll before it was even released! And rightly so. "Dust" was a highlight of the last Green Room compilation "Hope"- with it's squelchy analogue synth and disco beat and of course the icing on the cake - the soulful vocal of Joe Dukie/Dallas (Fat Freddy's Drop). A severely contagious track
Listening to Hollie Smith's beautiful voice is always a pleasure, and "Still Beyond Me" is no exception - another of the albums stand out cuts as is opener "Landed".
A world-class electronic release, and one sure to attract more international attention to the music of these shores.
