Follow up to 2001's critically and commercially successful "Thinking Room" If her debut announced the arrival of a new talent with such hit singles as the beautiful "Youthful", "Stolen Hill" cements Moa's place alongside other Kiwi songwriting heavyweights as Finn, Dobbyn and Runga.

With "Stolen Hill" Moa doesn't stick to the tried and true "Chick with a guitar" songwriter thing, instead as she effortlessly crosses between the beautiful poppiness of first single (and surefire hit) "In The Morning" to the sultry jazziness of "Lies in This Land" and "Society", and on to the two tracks sung in Te Reo which open and close "Stolen Hill" one gets the impression that Moa has found her identity not only as a songwriter but also as a person.
Strengthening the albums personal theme, "Stolen Hill" was produced and recorded in a barn by unsung producer wunderkind Ed McWilliams (aka. Ed Cake of Bressa Creeting Cake fame) along with Moa herself. On paper this is perhaps an unlikely pairing, but McWilliams' mad genius compliments Anika's songs, none more so than the playful "Broken Man" and the eerie epic "Annie Goes To Sleep".

Going through the industry mill with "Thinking Room" and coming out the other side jaded and confused could have easily derailed a promising career, but it seems to have ultimately been a blessing in disguise for Moa and her music, and as a result "Stolen Hill" is a very personal record and far more about the songs than how they are packaged. There is truly something for everyone on this album.
