A tribute album to New Zealand's favourite and most universally loved songwriting sons - Te Awamutu's finest; Tim and Neil Finn. The cleverly titled "She Will Have Her Way" features an array of notable female artists and female fronted bands from NZ and Australia, who have lined up to pay their respects to the Finn brothers and their songs, drawing on material from their respective solo careers as well as their work together in Split Enz, Crowded House and even from their recent Finn Brothers album.
Some, like Brooke Fraser ("Distant Sun") and Natalie Imbruglia ("Pineapple Head") play the songs pretty faithfully and do a fantastic job. Personally though, it's the artists who strip the well-loved tunes back, and add something of themselves to the songs that shine through here. It's a pretty gutsy move to have a crack at rearranging a song like "Don't Dream It's Over" - arguably the most known Finn song, so identifiable that it's pretty much a National icon – but Sarah Blasko does an admirable job of it. As does Holly Throsby with her moody acoustic take on Crowded House's "Not The Girl You Think You Are", with her lovely breathy vocal. Goldenhorse are always outstanding in these situations, and their adaptation of the elder Finn's "I'll Never Know" - a less obvious song choice - is no exception. Other notable names here are Renee Geyer, Missy Higgins, Kasey Chambers and Stellar*
