A nice little between-album stop-gap subtitled "An Aotearoa Anthology of 200 years Escapism from Industrial Revolution", Remixes and Radio Cuts is an extensive package that neatly compiles various remixes spanning the bands 13 year career.
Originally a tour-only CD from the bands European jaunt last year, NZ fans can now enjoy Remixes and Radio Cuts care of the mainman Andrew Penman's own Dub Conspiracy label.
Remixers include big international names like Adrian Sherwood (On-U Sound), David Harrow and the Mad Professor but call me biased, for my money it's the locals that shine through here. Concord Dawn and Mu (aka. Fat Freddy's DJ Fitchie) show once again they're more than able to hold their own against the big boys. The former gives "EZ On" the Drum n' Bass treatment while the latter cuts up "Mercy" and takes it into even deeper territory.
Also included as part of Remixes and Radio Cuts is a bonus DVD and this will be the gold for most fans. Featuring not only six of the bands videos but also "One Drop North" - the half hour documentary of the Dub's 2004 UK and European tour which aired on NZ screens last year.
This is an essential buy for all Salmonella Dub fans or appreciators of the thriving Aotearoa Roots scene that they can largely be credited with pioneering. Recommended.
