Connan and the Mockasins first EP 'Naughty Holidays' heralded the arrival of a startling new talent on the New Zealand music scene. With a reputation for amazing live gigs, and lead by charismatic guitar-god Connan Hosford, this second release - the intriguingly entitled 'Uuu It's Teasy' - has been keenly awaited by the band's growing fan base, and no doubt with even keener interest by labels eager to see if the band could produce the goods again. They won't be disappointed, and plenty more music lovers should get set to be won over by these six songs that showcase this unique talent.
Mining the musical sensibilities of the late 60s/early 70s psychedelic-blues-rock era (think Jimi Hendrix, Cream, late Beatles and early Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd) Connan and his trusty rhythm section of Seamus Ebbs (drums) and Ross Walker (upright bass) strip things right back to the roots with a raw recorded sound that harks back to the days when a band would set up in a room, turn on the mic, and just play the song. Such a method suits the bluesy jams of 'I Nude You' and 'Hey Chocolate' down-to-ground, and with so much over-produced, mastered-to-the-max music being released by acts wanting to make headway into the sanitary world of commercial radio, it's like a breath of fresh air to hear music that sounds 'real'.
Of course, along with the jams, we get the impossible-not-to-like pop singles 'Sneaky Sneaky Dogfriend' and old favourite 'Naughty Holidays', already chart-toppers on New Zealand's b.net radio network, and which are now starting to catch the ear of the nation on mainstream radio and music television.
