Fatcat and Fishface celebrate ten year's of making music for children with this, their 5th album Meanie. This album contains more of the same child-pleasing, vaguely dark, often hilarious songs that made their previous releases - which includes such titles as Dogbreath and Horrible Songs for Children - such a hit amongst the younger set (and for children of older ages as well).
Don't expect the saccharine pop of the likes of Hi-5 or The Wiggles here - this is kids' music with a definite edge. In the same spirit of Roald Dahl and Spike Milligan, F&F's musical tales confront the weird and wacky: the title track 'Meanie' for example - "I only love you when you're beautiful / I only love when you're good / I only love you when you do what I say / And you know that you should / I'm meanie, I'm meanie, I'm meanie, O meanie". We also get songs about looking for lost socks, roadworks, getting stung by a wasp ("take me to the Waspital"), and getting hit on the head by a coconut while on holiday in Polynesia.
This particular reviewers two children (seven and five) gave it an enthusiastic two thumbs up, and now answer any query that requires them to do something in the near future with a resounding "una momento". No further recommendation required.
