Parallel 37 is a hugely important NZ Jazz album for the ages. Recorded in the early 80’s the album features an all-star lineup with the likes of New Zealand jazz greats Brian Smith, Mike Nock, and Frank Gibson, collaborating with international stars such as guitar legend John Scofield, Vibraphone pioneer Milt Jackson, and Steve Erquiaga.
The project naturally occurred with the international artists all happening to be in NZ at the same time. All gathering together in Auckland, Parallel 37 was the result (the title comes from the 37th Parrallel, the position of Auckland on the world map). This album is an important product of the jazz scene at the time. Instantly recognisable with a purposeful flow, the album highlights the wealth of talent on show.
The re-issue is also hugely significant as it features 3 bonus tracks not on the original album from Emily Remler. These recordings were her last before her premature death in Sydney in 1990.
