These guys and girls have quickly become cult-favourites, especially in their hometown. Something of a "supergroup", the Ukelele Orchestra features the talents of Bret McKenzie (Flight Of The Conchords, Black Seeds), Age Pryor, Daniel Yeabsley (Twinset) and many other familiar faces. The group puts their own unique twist on some familiar, sing-along favourites.
Pulling together some of Welli’s favourite musicians and commanding the 4-string like you’ve never heard it before, the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra’s merry strummers have become a sell-out outfit!
Their live show features sing-a-long favourites, blazing solos, stunning dress sense, sparkling harmonies and comic banter, as they faithfully reproduce hit songs regardless of genre, including The White Stripes, David Bowie, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Rod Stewart, Leonard Cohen, The Muttonbirds, Split Enz, DD Smash and more.
The Heartache EP is their debut release, featuring versions of songs by Kings Of Leon, Crowded House and Bonnie Tyler, alongside NZ “campfire” favourites New Zealand Christmas Tree and Hoki Mai.
The group are 12-strong and include the likes of Bret McKenzie (Flight of the Conchords), Age Pryor, Daniel Yeabsley (Twinset and more), Gemma Gracewood, Andy Morley-Hall among their number.
