If you’re a fan of reggae music and its many hybrids, no doubt you’ve heard of Budspells, from Bondi Beach, Sydney.
After forming a tight alliance with Salmonella Dub, touring extensively with them and playing at numerous packed out events, Budspells have built up a strong fan base with their infectious ragga hip hop and reggae jungle grooves.
What you may not know is that Budspells’ core members MC Kye and Ants have extensive musical histories stretching back well beyond a decade, and despite residing in Bondi Beach, are both originally from NZ.
Kye (the emcee) was a member of Wicked Beat Sound System, while Ants (the studio guy) cut his teeth in the UK and lived in Welli, working with Mu (Fat Freddy’s Drop) and was a member of the legendary Bongmaster collective.
Nomadik Souls is Budspells’ debut album, and it’s released on their own Ruffage Tunez label, via Dub Conspiracy.
Nomadik Souls is a diverse trip through reggae, ragga, hip hop, dancehall, house, pop and smoked out downbeat, and is highly recommended for fans of Tiki’s Past, Present, Future, Cornerstone Roots, Dubwize and Salmonella Dub.
In ’06 Budspells released their EP Inna Sences on Dub Conspiracy and achieved some notoriety on the bNet through two critical songs: Ruckus, a grime influenced excursion featuring P.Digsss (Shapeshifter) and hip hop banger Feel Styles. Kye also featured on the Shapeshifter track Heat Of The Moment, which can be found on their Soulstice album. |
