Smoke Notes

After quickly selling out of her (Smoke exclusive) EP in record time, it's fair to say the debut long player from Fur Patrol front woman Deans has been highly anticipated!
With that instantly recognisable voice, comparisons to her work with Fur Patrol are going to be inevitable. Although there are a couple of songs that could be interchangeable with FP material, the horn bursts that open 'Modern Fables' signal there is something very different in the air. The whole album has more of an acoustic/folky approach and harking back to her Jazz-trained roots, Deans' voice has never been in better form.
It's on the track 'Run', where the power of Deans voice is most evident. With just an acoustic guitar, the song literally soars! The album's closer is a bit of a cut-up electronica workout, sounding not too dissimilar to Boards Of Canada. Guest musicians include Constantine Karlis (HDU), Nick Gaffney (Cairo Knife Fight) and Karl Kippenberger (Shihad).
